Did you know that some simple things in your skin care routine, can increase the risk of getting acne? If you think that you’re doing everything right, but your breakouts still won’t clear up, there’s probably an underlying reason for that.

Here are the 5 skincare mistakes that cause acne you probably didn’t know before:

1. Washing your face too much

Cleaning your skin is essential for preventing acne, but over-washing your face can upset your skin’s balance. Using too many products can dry up the excess oil, cause your oil glands to produce more oil and therefore cause more acne.

2. Makeup wipes

Makeup wipes can leave behind dirt and that can cause acne. Some wipes contain fragrances, alcohol and other ingredients that can dry and damage your skin. If you have sensitive skin, rubbing it with a wipe, can only cause inflammation and swelling that can block your pores.

3. Using the wrong sunscreen

Some types of sunscreens contain oil-based filter that can irritate the skin and cause acne breakouts. Avoid heavy and comedogenic products, because they an clog your pores and cause blemishes. Choose a daytime moisturizer that contains a broad spectrum SPF.

4. Washing your face in the shower

Hot water is very irritating for the skin and can damage your skin’s barrier, and that’s why it’s important to stop washing your face while showering. Hot water also dissolves the natural oils of the skin, making it irritated and dry.

5. Not cleansing after a workout

Not showering after exercising can cause post-workout acne. The sweat clogs your pores and causes breakouts. Remember to shower right after your workout to remove the sweat and that accumulated dirt.
