Halloween Party Food Ideas for Kids

If you’re planning a spooktacular Halloween extravaganza for your family, you’ve probably been thinking about Halloween decorations, Halloween costumes, and Halloween accessories. But have you considered Halloween food? Every party needs a feast to make it truly memorable, and Halloween, with its host of fun themes, is a great excuse to get creative in the kitchen. Your little monsters will be getting excited at the thought of collecting Trick or Treat goodies, but there is so much more to Halloween food than that. From preparing a terrific table to cooking up a fang-tastic feast, here’s the PartyWorld guide to creating a Halloween meal to remember…

Set the scene

Halloween is all about theatricals, and nowhere more so than at your party table. A good table cloth will give you a background to work on – our black dots plastic table cover will protect your surface from sticky little hands whilst creating a Tim Burton-esque vibe; or let our spiderweb table cloth weave a spooky magic around your feast.

Next, think plates and napkins. Disposable plates are a great idea when you have a tribe of little monsters to host, and they will love eating from our black dots plates. Co-ordinate with a splash of orange and our Halloween napkins, perfect for wiping mucky faces and keeping things spooky. You might also need bowls for items such as crisps, dips or ice creams. Our purple and black plastic party bowls are sturdy and reusable, so stash them away in your cupboard to bring out every year!

Black dots cups will match the rest of your tableware, and look perfect paired with our black dots straws. Be sure to add in our black cutlery to complete the darkly delicious set up.

Dastardly décor

You’ve sorted the practicalities of eating, now it’s time to have some fun with table decorations! Our black dots bunting looks fang-tastic spooled above a feasting area, and matches the rest of your tableware a treat. Make your family feel really special by getting one of our personalised Happy Halloween banners to greet your guests with. Will your guests be intrigued by an Addams Family atmosphere? Our web and spiders kit is perfect for sprinkling a little spookiness around your dining room, a la Morticia and co. Or, for a younger child’s party, keep it jolly by festooning your ceiling with our pumpkin paper lanterns (they’re spooky, but also kinda cute!).

Party favours

It’s a great welcoming gesture to set out party favours for each guest. Halloween gives a wealth of inspiration for little gifts that will really get the celebration started. Coloured sparklers can be a lovely activity for older children to enjoy on a cold autumnal evening; or if you are planning on going Trick or Treating, our Trick or Treat bags make fantastic gifts that your guests will love filling up with goodies!

The main event

Your feast will, of course, be the main event. With everything looking spooktacular, it’s time to create some fang-tastically good food. Here are our top PartyWorld ideas for Halloween party food for kids.

Creepy cupcakes

Cupcakes are a simple and delicious treat that everyone will love. Whip these up and complete their Halloween look using our orange cupcake wraps or our complete Halloween cupcake kit!

Ingredients:

  • 110g softened butter
  • 110g golden caster sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 110g self-raising flour

Method:

  1. Heat oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4 and fill a 12 cupcake tray with cases.
  2. Using an electric whiskbeat 110g softened butter and 110g golden caster sugar together until pale and fluffy then whisk in 2 large eggs, one at a time, scraping down the sides of the bowl after each addition.
  3. Add ½ tsp vanilla extract, 110g self-raising flour and a pinch of salt, whisk until just combined then spoon the mixture into the cupcake cases.
  4. Bake for 15 mins until golden brown and a skewer inserted into the middle of each cake comes out clean. Leave to cool completely on a wire rack.

Decorate with buttercream and then add our colourful pumpkin-themed cupcake kit accessories!

Monster cookies

Another really simple recipe idea that will be a monster hit with kids of all ages!

Ingredients:

  • Chocolate chunk cookie mix or similar pack available from a supermarket
  • M&Ms
  • Edible googly eyes
  • Writing icing

Method:

  1. Follow the box instructions to make the cookies – it’s usually a very quick process
  2. Once cooked, but still soft, press your googly eyes in place, and insert a variety of M&Ms all over your cookie faces to give them a monster-y look.
  3. Once cool, add further monstrous-ness with writing icing. You could even personalize each cookie with the initials of a guest.
Witches fingers

The kids will enjoy helping you prep these, and they can be made up to two weeks in advance, so it’s a great way to extend the Halloween fun – as well as decreasing the amount of prep work you will have on the day.

Ingredients:

  • 225g chocolate
  • 20 breadsticks or pretzel sticks
  • 20 roasted almonds or pumpkin seeds

Method:

  1. Line a baking tray with greaseproof paper. Place the chocolate in a large microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high in 30 second increments until almost melted, stirring occasionally until smooth.
  2. Coat each breadstick in the chocolate by carefully dipping and spooning some over the top. Leave a couple of inches uncoated at one end. Place on your prepared greaseproof paper.
  3. While the chocolate is still melted, press an almond or pumpkin seed onto the coated end to resemble a fingernail! Do this to each coated breadstick, and then pop it all in the fridge to set the chocolate. Fingers can be kept at room temperature in an airtight container for up to two weeks.

A Halloween cake

A centrepiece cake is an essential component of a party, and you can decorate it to suit your theme. Choose a simple recipe, perhaps a classic sponge or a traybake, that all your guests will enjoy. Then go to town on the decorations – a white cake made gruesome with red icing “blood”, or spooky with black iced webs and spiders. Our black Halloween “Boo!” cake topper gives you a simple way to create a real showstopper. Or if the thought of baking gives you the creeps, consider a clever alternative. Our Halloween bat pinata looks amazing, and not only fills the spot of a centrepiece cake, it also gives you a fun activity to do with the party guests. You can fill the pinata with a whole load of scary sweeties, and get their Trick or Treat bags a little fuller!

Whatever your approach to Halloween, there are loads of ways you can get creative and summon up a fang-tastic feast to remember! At PartyWorld, we are experts in all things celebratory. Our spooktacular range of Halloween accessories, Halloween decorations, and Halloween costumes will make your event a truly unforgettable occasion.
